Katrina originally worked ‘on the road’ for an overland safari company. This year-long safari experience in the early 1990's took her from Nairobi to Cape Town and vice versa, many times! This experience provided Katrina with an excellent local knowledge of Africa and its people.
Over the years Katrina has returned to Africa 'on repeat' experiencing something new and exhilarating on each visit.
Katrina has been selling safaris throughout African for over 25 years and travelled to Africa more than 40 times.
She has experienced the luxurious side of safari life where your every need is catered for and been lucky enough to travel to some of the most remote and pristine wildlife areas in the world. Katrina says that sleeping under canvas or under the African night sky is an experience not to be missed.
Amongst her fondest memories is the hot air balloon safari at migration time, gorilla trekking and an extensive air safari incorporating Namibia and Botswana.

In 2012, Katrina revisited East Africa and travelled from Nairobi to Lewa Downs to the Masai Mara and onto the Serengeti and Ngorongoro Crater. Apart from checking out these hot spots, and visiting as many lodges as time allowed, Katrina witnessed Mara River Crossings at Migration time. This trip was completed with a Gorilla Trek in Rwanda, being the second time Katrina has been trekking for Gorillas. 'We had Masai Warriors dance for us, on the rim of the Ngorongoro Crater (which was something I had experienced before) however this time it seemed to make the whole world standstill for me. The warriors are truly mesmerising, powerful and untouchable. It brought tears to my eyes’.
In 2013, Katrina went on an exploratory trip to Madikwe Game Reserve, Sun City and onwards to revisit some private game reserves of Kruger National Park, Sabi Sands Private Game Reserve & Thornybush Private Game Reserve. She visited Sir Richard Branson's award winning Ulusaba Safari Lodge and Rock Lodge as well as taking a break at the stunning Royal Malawane, known for it's high level cuisine and exceptional game viewing! Rounding off this trip was time in cosmopolitan Cape Town and a relaxing break on the Garden Route.
In 2014, Katrina revisited Botswana for a heavenly week on safari in Botswana traversing through Khwai, Moremi and the Okavango Delta. 'To spend time chilling out at a water camp in the delta was like a "holiday within my safari" - totally soothing for the soul. The colours, the water, the reeds, the small surprises, the sunrises, the sunsets.....amazing; something everyone should experience at least once in their lifetime'. After Botswana, Katrina went to Cape Town for the prestigious We Are Africa Travel Show, being the first travel show of its like was a major highlight for Katrina but this experience was topped off with a hike up Lion's Head for sunrise on Day One of the Conference...Now that is what I call a great day in the office!
In 2015, Katrina revisited Malawi and went on safari at Mkulumadzi, a private concession in the Majete Wildlife Reserve, Malawi’s best known game reserve. It is so much fun staying at this lodge. Firstly it’s located between two rivers which create a feeling of isolation and excitement complimented by the soothing sounds of water. Secondly because the game viewing is brilliant from your room or main deck with plenty of animals coming to drink at the water’s edge plus many hippos and crocodiles on show to watch all day. Thirdly the approach to the lodge is via swing bridge! It is simply a stunning luxury lodge. I must return one day in hope I will see a sable! No safari is complete without a rest afterwards so this is where Lake Malawi and the heavenly Pumulani should not be missed. Katrina spent her time relaxing on the white sandy beach and took a speedboat trip to see the top snorkelling spots. The views of the lake are incredible from every vantage point; the rooms, the restaurant/bar and of course from the stylish infinity pool. Dinner was served under the stars on the beach one night complete with bonfire and a visit to the nearby village (where most of the lodge staff reside) was rewarding and definitely worthwhile. Malawi as a whole has left Katrina with refreshed and lasting memories of the beautiful people and landscapes of Malawi - the land of smiles.
In 2016, it was Victoria Falls and Hwange National Park, Zimbabwe in the spotlight. Katrina spent 5 nights in Hwange National Park visiting lodges and game-viewing her way around the vast park. The game viewing was fantastic with a particular focus on walking safaris. Whilst being professionally guided Katrina got up close to elephant on foot on two occasions. My time in Victoria Falls was out of this world with time to relax and enjoy the falls. She experienced the Flight of Angels Helicopter over the falls as well as the Tour of Falls and Sunset Cruise on the mighty Zambezi River.
Katrina has been visiting Cape Town each year for the past 4 years and says the Mother City never disappoints. It is cosmopolitan, groovy and put simply…a happening little place well worth visiting and including on your itinerary.
Later in the year 2016, another trip to Africa was taken, this time to the wonderful and magical - Kenya. Katrina spend a week in the Masai Mara Game Reserve and nearby Naboisho Conservancy, Olare Conservancy and Mara North Conservancy. It was an action packed week of excellent game viewing that only 'The Mara' is famous for. Complete with a Hot Air Balloon Safari on the last day, it was a trip of a lifetime, says Katrina.
In 2017, Katrina explored the stunning Lower Zambezi National Park & Livingstone (Victoria Falls) in Zambia as well as Chobe National Park in Botswana. I'm so lucky to see and experience so many different safari destinations. It's hard to pick my favourite place but one thing is for sure, I adore game viewing and the incredible people I meet along the way. It really is an incredibly great destination with something for everyone.
2018 was busy with travel to other places and new beginnings, including the expansion of African Expert and NEW office space along with opening World Travel Design
2019's highlight was a trip to South Africa, Zimbabwe and Zambia. Starting off in Cape Town with an exhilarating helicopter over Table Mountain, the excitement continued into the pristine wildlife areas of Timbabvati & Sabi Sands Private Game Reserves for some up close game viewing and incredible leopard viewing. As a finale, relaxation on the Zambezi River was called for whilst the Victoria Falls where in full flood.
