African Expert has a variety of scheduled
tours as well as private tours through Uganda & Rwanda so that
trekking gorillas (and chimpanzees) is made easy.
One of the most moving experiences
that anyone can experience in their lifetime is to come face to
face with a mountain gorilla. It is an encounter that will stay
with you forever and an exclusive and powerful experience. There
are only a few habituated gorilla groups in Uganda and Rwanda, none
of which are easily accessable - meaning that only a very limited
number of people have the opportunity to obtain gorilla permits
each day. A gorlla permit allows you to enter the protected area
in a strictly controlled group for gorilla observation from a short
distance. s
A number of well known biologists,
in particular Dian Fossey brought the plight of the gorilla to our
attention. Prior to tracking the gorilla in the field, very little
was known about these creatures. The pioneering wildlife researchers
soon discovered that gorilla trekking and observation was not easy
and that has not changed.
In order to enjoy this expedition you
need to be quite fit as the mountain presents its own challenges
in terms of un-trodden paths, steep hillsides, wet vegetation and
in places slippery mud. The trek from the base camp into the national
park itself is through villages and is rewarding for the children
who come to say hi and the unexpected cultural interaction this
offers. The actual trek to find the gorillas is usually between
2-3 hours but can be as long as 8 hours. Regardless of the time
it takes your guides to locate the gorillas, you have a guaranteed
one hour to observe them in their natural habitat.
The accommodation in the region ranges
from budget through to the most luxurious and there are safaris
of all styles to take you to the gorillas and other attractions
in the region. The cost of a Gorilla Permit ranges from USD375 -
USD500 per person per day.
Please book well in advance to reduce
the risk of missing out on permits. Contact
